Ashley Wood
Ashley Wood is an award-winning Australian multimedia artist, illustrator, art director, and internationally recognized toy designer. For more than 30 years, he has pushed the boundaries of comic books, illustration, and collectible figures with a distinctive visual style that blends painterly abstraction, gestural ink work, and innovative design.
Wood began his career with the UK’s 2000 AD, contributing to the iconic Judge Dredd series before moving on to work for Marvel and DC Comics on both cover and interior art. His bold, experimental approach later caught the attention of Todd McFarlane and Image Comics, leading to his breakout work on Hellspawn, which he co-created and illustrated.
In 2008, Wood co-founded 3A, a Hong Kong-based designer toy company, where he served as art director, and producer of hundreds of original vinyl toys, action figures, fashion dolls, and collectible pieces. He also created high-end figures for major brands including Marvel, DC Comics, and IDW Publishing.
Central to Wood’s career are his original creative universes, including Popbot, World War Robot, Zombies vs Robots, Adventure Kartel, and Lore. These works explore themes such as post-humanism, advanced technology, conflict, memory, mythology, and cats, all through his unmistakable artistic lens.
In 2019, Wood co-founded Underverse, an entertainment and collectible brand through which he continues to expand his original creations into premium designer figures and related projects. He has also returned to Image Comics in recent years, developing new work, republishing earlier titles, and collaborating with writers and artists from around the world.
Alongside his commercial and publishing work, Wood continues to produce personal artwork and exhibit in galleries internationally.
